Tiffany James


Tiffany James is a strategic advisor for Democracy Security Action Fund. She leads with care, love, and belonging. She is the founder and CEO of Justice James Consulting, a global social impact and public relations firm based in Columbia, SC that focuses on community engagement, equity, sustainability, and development. In 2020, Ms. James spearheaded a community engagement effort to stop the spread of COVID-19 through coalition building, dissemination of information, and community engagement. Her work in community health during the pandemic has led her to create a Community Care Campaign initiative to establish care infrastructures and foster interdependence in marginalized communities. 

Since the beginning of the pandemic, she has been trained in mediation, HIPAA,
emergency management, and joined the Local Community Emergency Response Team.
During the 2020 Presidential Elections, she was the South Carolina Deputy Political Director
and Black Engagement Director for presidential Candidate Mayor Pete Buttigieg. Prior to that,
she was the Community and Public Relations Specialist for The Central Midlands Transit
Authority in which she managed transportation emergencies, crisis communications, and rapid
response during disasters. She has helped to pass several local, statewide, and national issue
based referendums in the past two decades.

She has been interviewed by BBC, The Wall Street Journal, Boston Globe, The Washington
Post, NPR, CBS NEWS, The Huffington Post, Greenville News, and ETV: Palmetto
Perspectives. She received her BA in political science from Clemson University in 2004 and
as a lifelong public servant and professional, she served as an Americorps member upon
graduation. She is the recipient of the National Council on Negro Women Community Service
Award (2024) as well as the SC Legislative Progressive Caucus Visionary Award (2024). She
is a graduate of James E. Clyburn Political Fellowship (2017) and was a Regional Finalist for
the White House Fellows Program (2022). As a fellow of the Skinner Leadership Institute’s
MasterSeries of Distinguished Leaders (2023), she was a co-creator of the marketing plan for
the U.S. Commission on the Social Status of Black Men and Boys through the Office for Civil
Rights and the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation. She is currently the president of
National Action Network of Columbia and serves on several local and international boards.
She loves acting, singing, traveling, writing, reading, exercising, and spending time with her
family, friends, and nature.
